The programme ‘Andalucía en Semana Santa’ returns to Canal Sur prime time with a very special trip to Rome, to find out from the brotherhoods of Esperanza de Málaga and El Cachorro, all the details of the Jubilee of the Brotherhoods, which will be celebrated next May.
The fifth season of ‘Andalusia at Easter’ with Enrique Romero gets underway
The programme starts precisely in Rome, the cradle of Western civilisation, where Enrique Romero will explain what a Jubilee is and what the route of the Cachorro and the Esperanza de Málaga will be. The programme will also visit St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and the Coliseum, two of the most important points of the Jubilee journey of the Brotherhoods.
The recordings in Rome will also feature in the other three programmes of the season, and thanks to this, the programme will unravel the links between the Italian capital and the Andalusian Holy Week. Enrique Romero will tell us exciting stories, such as the relics that Saint Helen brought from Jerusalem, he will climb the Holy Stairs, he will talk about two Andalusian emperors (Hadrian and Trajan) and he will tell us about the Andalusian origin of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
During his visit to Malaga, Enrique Romero will interview Paloma Saborido, commissioner of the Dicastery of Evangelisation and part of the organisation of the Great Procession that the brotherhoods of El Cachorro from Seville and La Esperanza from Malaga will lead in Rome next May. With her, he will learn first hand how this historic jubilee has been conceived and all the details surrounding this event. He will also attend the carving of the men on the throne who will accompany La Esperanza to Rome and will witness exclusively the spectacular assembly of the throne of the Malaga brotherhood, one of the largest in Andalusia, something never seen before on television.
Enrique Romero will then travel to Seville to find out how the transfer of the Cristo del Cachorro to the Italian capital is being prepared. He will also experience an emotional tribute to Ismael Vargas, the foreman of the Cachorro who will celebrate his 50th anniversary in Rome next May.
Once again this year, thanks to artificial intelligence, ‘Andalucía en Semana Santa’ will recreate the history of the so-called ‘Indian Christs’, focusing on the origins of the popular ‘Esparraguero’ of Córdoba.
As always, the experts will resolve the most curious doubts in the famous ‘pills’ and the programme will travel all over Andalusia to find out about the peculiarities of Holy Week in Setenil de las Bodegas (Cádiz) and will recall the historic milestone of the first Andalusian brotherhood to travel to Rome, the Escolapios de Granada, 25 years ago.
The programme will culminate with a performance by the CCTT Rosario de Cádiz band, which will give us an impressive performance of the march ‘El milagro’ from the cathedral of the capital of Cádiz.
Next Thursday, 20 March, the first programme of ‘Andalucía en Semana Santa’ at 22.45 h.
